Start of Maternal Health Support Project

An orientation session was conducted on 17th march 2016 with all trainees, trainers, HASP Skardu coordinator and in charge sub-program management office staff FPAP attending. The project aims and objectives were highlighted by in charge FPAP. He explained that Traditional Birth Attendants (TBA)s can play a vital role in reducing the MMR (Maternal Mortality rate) and IMR (infant mortality rate) in remote villages and that HASP and FPAP aim to work at the grass roots level by providing such capacity building trainings to two members per village. At the occasion HASP Skardu coordinator Ali Hussain Shigri expressed his views and stressed that the participants should take keen interest and immerse themselves in the training. He also added that he will regularly visit the training center and hostel and would be available to the trainees for round the clock support. Monitoring of the project will be carried out by HASP Skardu coordinator.

The trainees were then given a comprehensive introduction to the training course, schedule, timings, ethics, discipline and responsibilities both during and after the training.

They were also informed that kits for TBAs with standard accessories had been ordered and would reach Skardu in 3 days. Training materials including dummies, charts, books, booklets, brochures and videos to aid in understanding would be utilized during the 2-month theoretical portion. A request letter was also dispatched to MS DHQ Hospital Skardu for practical exposure during the last month of training
